Within a setting of bright lights, loud music and outrageously 'glam' decor, she watches the crowd.
Her hair flows, as she moves to the beat. Her lips smile, yet her eyes appear flat and drowned.
She wears a number. Her number, 33.
She is haunted by memories of past nights, encounters with 'customers' who used and abused her to fulfill their fantasies. Each time feeling emptied, emotionless and dehumanized.
Ashamed, standing on a raised platform in the centre of the room, 33 among the other numbers, is lusted after and objectified by a sea of anxious buyers.
Each having a different story, yet with all too similar beginnings of coercion into a lifestyle unchosen.
Though she has been used, exploited and abused, she is a valued creation and deserves life in abundance. Her worth, is neither measured by the pennies spent on her, nor by the perverse minds of those who dishonor her. But her worth is far above rubies and pearls.
Each year human trafficking generates billions of dollars and is the most rapidly growing industry. Daily, injustices as such go on unnoticed.
