DARING YOU TO BE DIFFERENT
You did not make it to this place in life by chance, but by God's choice. You were not put on this planet to barely get by, blend in, and be like your environment. I believe you were designed to enjoy an abundant life; a life that receives much and gives much, a life that reaches beyond the limitations, setbacks and the voices of our culture, that seek to shape our lives into less than what we've been designed for.
If I were to ask you, "do you feel like you are more than what you are demonstrating?", what would your response be? You might say yes to that in a couple areas in your life. In your physical body that might mean poor eating habits and exercise commitments have you experiencing a body your not comfortable in. Or relationally you might be tolerating a relationship with a man regardless if he belittles you, disrespects you, or even abuses you, all because you are afraid to be alone.
I feel it's time for an early spring cleaning in your life. Not necessarily a cleaning out of your closet, which you might need, but one where you take inventory of your life and you clear out stuff that doesn't fit the real you and who desire you desire to become. Just like your old clothes, some of your old attitudes, exuses, mindsets and relationships are out of date and they don't fit the best you. The question is, will you keep letting out of date things pile up in your life to where they suffocate and bury your dreams?, or will you choose to be different and let go of the old so you can have something new?
We all like new things in our life, new clothes, new experiences, yet for the new to come there must be change. The decisions I am making in my life right now will shape what I become. Surely you won't cheat yourself by hoping things will change without making a commitment. There is definitely a difference in your life between what you are interested in and what you are committed to. We hear people say a lot, "I would like to be happy", "I would like to be more positive", "I would like to feel better in my body", "I would like to be closer to God", but when you say "I would like", all you are stating is a desire or a preference. We have all said, "I should change, but", "I could change, but", well today is the day to get off your butt. It's time to move forward in your life by not dwelling on the past, but having a new beginning by making a change.
All change begins with a choice. Your choices can change and transform your relationships, the way you treat yourself, your physical fitness, the way you treat others and the quality of your life. You can make the decision right now to finish school, to smile more, to learn to dance, to forgive a person who hurt you, to exercise, or to pray more.
Before we make a decision, we must begin to think what is possible in your life. The Bible says all things are possible to a person who believes. The question is, what do you believe?, and what do you envision? I propose three questions to assist and enable you to move beyond the predictable you into the purposeful you.
Complete the following sentences:
1. This is who I am...
(Make sure you get God's view of you and that you don't determine your worth from your faults, flaws and failures.)
2. My life will be about...
(What do you feel your life is to be about?)
3. I will do this by...
(What action will you take to turn your idea of a new beginning into reality?)
