READ FOOD LABELS

Stay away from trans fats!  A trans fat is from the common name unsaturated fat that is structured with trans-isomer fatty acids.  This fat is typically man-made and is intended for manufactures to have an inexpensive method of processing food, enhancing texture, and extending the shelf life of their products.  This is a non-essential fat that does not belong in the human body.

Trans fat is so detrimental to our health that Congress passed the Trans Fat Truth and Labeling Act 2009.  This act states “ to direct the Commissioner of Food and Drugs to revise the Federal regulations applicable to the declaration of the trans fat content of a food on the label and in the labeling of the food when such content is less than 0.5 gram.”  Consumers beware!  Manufacturers have gotten away with labels in disguise.  You must read the ingredients list.  Any ingredient listed as hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated is a trans fat.  Be informed and stay healthy!
