WEARING A MASK
By: Kyla Tollefson
Have you ever felt like you were wearing a mask? Like you were hiding behind the façade of someone else? Has the world ever convinced you that you need to be something other than what you are? You do everything you can to change your looks, your personality, your heart. You strive to be skinnier, have flawless skin, whiter teeth, better hair, nicer clothes, be funnier, more entertaining, smarter, more ambitious… The list goes on. I’ve been there.
Society is up in your face, screaming out what standard is acceptable. We walk around like everyone is watching us, like they are staring at our flaws.
Loving yourself, coming to terms with who you are, accepting your flaws, or whatever you want to call it, is one of the hardest challenges we will ever face. It means you need to consciously choose to think positively.
You need to remember that there is no one in the world like you. No one will ever be like you. You are unique, and no one can ever take that away from you.
When someone compliments you, say thank-you. Accept positive words from others, and don’t ever forget to life up the women in your life. Everyone needs an encouragement.
Remember that all people struggle with insecurity and hide behind a mask at one point or another.
Take yours off. Be true to who you are, and stand with your head held high.
