TAKE A BREAK FROM THE CYBER WORLD
BY: Kyla Tollefson
I laugh as I think of the way we network these days. We have come a long way from landline phones and written letters. Mobile devices are now permanently attached to our hands, and our fingers can pound out a hundred words a second. Not only do we love our cell phones, we love the social networking sites. Facebook and Twitter apps are on the front page of our cell phones so we don’t ever miss a message. Throughout the day we find ourselves scrolling through the news feed of our friends, catching up on their status updates. We love knowing what people are doing at all times of the day.
I have tried to count out all the times I check my phone during the day, and it is quite ridiculous.
Even though I chuckle at these facts, I understand that networking these days is easier than ever. It is as much a blessing as it is a curse.
Throughout the last couple of weeks, I have been encouraged to take more time to relax. My husband and I will set out specific time to be together, with absolutely no technology in sight. It is some of the best times we spend together. On nights alone, I will take a walk or read a book, instead of sitting on my computer for hours.
Now don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with any of these devices or websites, it’s just important to take time, in the busyness of life, to fade out the distractions of the outside world.
