SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY

We are spirits, we have a soul, we live in a body.

We exercise our bodies (or we get in our workout clothes and plan to).  We read magazines, books or go to night school, filling our soul (mind, will, emotions) with information.  Have you nurtured your spirit lately?

My what? Huh? Excuse me, I have to return this text message... Ok, I'm back, what were you saying?  Oh Jill, come on really?  I'm too busy to be spiritual.

So maybe you arent spiritual or you don't buy into that stuff, but hear me out.

At one time or another you've either been to a funeral or see one on t.v. - open casket, stiff gray body - it's weird, it's creepy... just sayin'.  But why? The person's body is there, but they aren't really 'there'.

Spirit.  Their spirit is gone.  When a person's spirit leaves their body dies; where does it go?  Well that's a whole separate column, but there's my argument for your spirit: you have one and I have one.  My question is, "what are you doing to nurture and care for it?"

I'm a practical kind of girl so I will keep this quick and simple.  I will ask you a couple of questions and your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to think about them; like really ask yourself the questions.  But Jilllll, my mind is so busy and I'm so tired and I have so much to do!  Tell your soul to SHUT UP for a minute.  Yes, you can.  It's your soul and you have authority over it, tell it to step aside for a bit.

1st question: When is the last time you've been outdoors without your cell phone?

2nd question: If you don't have a yard, beach, pond, river or park out your back door, can you get to one relatively easily?

Here's the challenge:  Get outside and be alone if possible.  I mean don't leave your kids by themselves in a parked car or do anything irresponsible, but to be in solitude is important.

Sit in nature, wherever that may be.  5 minutes is the minimum.  Breathe deeply.  Shut your mouth.  Tell your soul to Shhhh.  Maybe even close your eyes.  Let the Creator of the Universe nurture your spirit...

Repeat often.
